Friends of St James

The Friends of St James the Great, Thorley was founded in 1983 to assist the Rector and Parochial Church Council in maintaining and beautifying the Church and Churchyard.

We seek to raise funds in support of these aims by organising events, such as the Festival of Flowers and Music that is held every year over the August Bank Holiday Weekend, and through membership subscriptions.

Other fund raising activities include the sale of Sunday Afternoon Teas in the Church Room from 2:30 pm to 5:00 pm from the beginning of March until the end of October, Soup and a Roll lunches served from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm every Sunday over the winter months (November to February), in May a plant sale, during October we   host our popular Prize Quiz Evening and in November an Autumn Craft Fair.

By 2009 we had raised over £135,000, enabling numerous projects to be undertaken.  In May 2010 we were able to fund the replacement of the pipe organ by a digital organ.

Visit our website at www.friends-stjames.org for further details of these activities, and to find out more about the historic Church of St James the Great and the lives of the people of Thorley in past times.
