Faith in the living God is a bridge to a certain future in eternity -
Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.
NIV Bible Hebrews 11:1
There is no doubt that having faith in something untried could spell disaster. Every time I drive a car I press the brake pedal and expect it to work in stopping the vehicle.
I watched someone making a Bungee jump one evening. The young man was strapped, tightly into a harness which was attached to the end of an elasticised rope.
Taking a step to the edge and looking down at the rocks so far below he was ready to jump. In that last second he stopped and turned back. Five attempts later and shaking with fear, he took a deep intake of breath and the writhing body was propelled into mid air and now plunging downwards, he thinks – “Will I be ok?”- Twang!!!
“Oh Yes!”- He shouts – “I am OK,” – “I feel great!”
It could have gone wrong, but fortunately it didn’t.
Faith in God and the Lord Jesus Christ is for me much more dependable.
I have a physical issue with my back which causes constant pain is debilitating and needs major surgery and yet my faith is not in myself, my health, or being happy, well or rich. As a Christian I have a sense of certainty as the living God of eternity guides and protects me on my life’s journey. I am not immune to dangers or illnesses, but my faith is strong and knowing that God is with me I have peace and joy.
