Welcome to Children

Children’s Groups at St James

Welcome!  At St James we place a strong emphasis on developing our young people, they are an integral part of the church and we feel really privileged to help them grow into mature young adults with a good understanding of scripture and Christian values.

We usually start each Sunday service in church and then leave after the first ten minutes to go to the Emmaus centre.

We usually sing a couple of songs and pray together before we break up into age based groups.  There are five different groups to cater for all ages from 3-16.  Each group is led by at least two adults and the children will study a bible story or issue using a range of activities such as craft, discussion, drama or games.  There is a team of approximately six adults working with each group.  This approach enables the children to develop friendships within their groups and for the adults to get to know and understand each of the children.

We stop our normal programme for various sessions where the children are all together.  We run themed workshops once a term; we have games sessions and music workshops.  We usually lead one or two services per year; these are always really well received by the rest of the Church who really value the involvement of the young people.  Our key focus is to learn more about God by having fun and fellowship with each other.

There are usually 35-50 children each week, we would love this number to rise and we always welcome more young people and more adults to help in our fantastic teams!
